Picts
Ancient peoples living in eastern and northern Scotland from the Late Iron Age to the Early Medieval periods. They were some of the last people in the British Isles to convert to Christianity.
The Triskelion in Pictish and Celtic Culture
Many cultures, including the Pictish, Roman and Celtic, have used the Triskelion in their artwork. In its basic form, it consists of three spirals connected in the center and curving out in the same direction, somewhat like a pinwheel. The Triskelion (aka triskele) motif was found at a site dating to circa 3200 BCE, located in what is now known as Ireland. This predates the arrival of the Celts in the region. Just before the 5th century, the Triskelion became incorporated into Celtic Christianity, the three spirals representing the Holy Trinity.
