These are the same style Kilts worn in the movie “ Braveheart ”. Our Ancient Kilts are the perfect highland attire for Renaissance festivals and other reenactment events. Depending upon who you talk to they may or may not be historically accurate, but our Ancient Kilt is much cooler and more practical than a great kilt for hot weather wear. We recommend them to anyone looking for the Renaissance highland look How is an Ancient Kilt different? The Ancient Kilt is basically a Phillabeg with an extra 2-3 yards of tartan attached.

What's a Phillabeg? The phillabeg, or "little kilt", with Cheater Pleats™ and straps and buckles added, is my favorite kilt. I wear them all summer long to pretty much every event we attend. They are light and comfortable, and allow maximum freedom of movement. And they look cool! Modern, tailored kilts are often referred to incorrectly as "little kilts". The little kilt, or phillabeg, or feilidh-beag, is actually an earlier predecessor of today's modern kilt. Unlike a modern kilt, it is not a tailored garment.
