What do you mean what's a brat? It's the German version of haggis isn't it?

Before the development of the Great Kilt, the standard of dress in the Celtic and world included the Brat (a similar garment was worn by the Vikings as well). A Brat is simply a piece of woolen cloth that one would wear over their other clothing. It was often worn like a cloak, but was also used like a sash or shawl. The length of the Brat was entirely dependent upon the wearer and the style at the time; however, the average Brat would have been 1 to 1.5 yards long from doubled cloth (up to 60" wide). One important thing to note about our Fly Plaids – many companies pleat and stich down the top corner of their Fly Plaids. This is often true with our purled Flys as they are not made by us. However, we usually do not stitch in pleats on our fly plaids. We find this restricts the possibilities for wearing the Plaids, especially if it is going to be used as a Brat.
